AdBlue's primary purpose is to reduce NOx emissions in diesel engines. NOx represents a group of highly reactive gases produced during the combustion process in diesel engines, and it contributes to air pollution and the formation of smog.

When an engine operates, a portion of the exhaust gases is directed into the SCR system, which encompasses a catalyst and a supply of AdBlue. As AdBlue is introduced into the hot exhaust gases, a chemical reaction transpires. The urea in AdBlue decomposes into ammonia (NH3) and carbon dioxide (CO2). Subsequently, the ammonia reacts with NOx molecules over the SCR catalyst, transforming them into innocuous nitrogen (N2) and water vapour (H2O). This process notably diminishes NOx emissions, rendering diesel engines considerably cleaner and compliant with stringent emissions standards.
